LA Dodgers Survive in Canada to Force Decisive Game 7 in World Series
The World Series is headed to a final Game 7 following the Dodgers kept alive their repeat dreams intact on Friday with a three to one victory over the Blue Jays in Game 6.
The reigning title holders ended Toronto’s late-game comeback with a dramatic game-ending double play, stunning a home crowd that had come ready to cheer the city’s championship in 32 years.
Sixth Game Summary
The Dodgers generated all of their offense in the third inning. With two away, Ohtani was purposely passed before Will Smith doubled to left field to bring home Edman. Freddie Freeman drew a walk to fill the bases, and Mookie Betts delivered with a two-run single to left, giving the Dodgers a three-run advantage.
That key hit snapped a postseason slump and rekindled the title holders' hopes of becoming the first repeat championship victors since the New York Yankees captured three straight from 1998 to 2000.
Pitching Duel
Gausman had been dominant to that point, striking out half a dozen of the first seven batters he faced. He struck out eight through three innings, tying a World Series mark, but the third-frame rally proved decisive. The Toronto ace ended with 8 Ks over six frames, yielding three runs on three safeties and two walks.
Yamamoto, in contrast, was solid again under pressure. The 27-year-old right-hander outdueled Gausman for the second time in a week, giving up a single run on five hits over six innings with six Ks. He boosted his record to 4–1 this playoffs with a 1.56 ERA.
The lone score against him came on George Springer two-out base hit in the third, driving in Addison Barger, who had doubled earlier in the inning. That single provided a brief spark in his comeback to the lineup after sitting out a pair of contests with an oblique injury.
Relief Heroics
After that, the Dodgers’ bullpen took over. Rookie Wrobleski escaped a tight spot in the seventh inning, and fellow rookie Rōki Sasaki worked into the ninth before plunking Kirk to open the inning. Addison Barger followed with a two-base hit that got stuck under the outfield wall, forcing base runners to stay at second and third.
Glasnow, Los Angeles’ third game starter, entered in relief and got a popout before Andrés Giménez hit a line drive to left. Hernández made the catch and threw to second base to retire the runner, sealing the win and earning Glasnow his first career successful save.
Next Up: Seventh Game
The best-of-seven now boils down to one game. Max Scherzer will start for Toronto, making him the only living pitcher to pitch in more than one World Series Game 7s after doing so in the 2019 season with Washington. The veteran inked a single-season contract to chase another championship and has been a outspoken presence throughout this postseason.
The Dodgers, looking to become the sport's initial repeat title winners in nearly a quarter-century, are expected to lean on their two-way star for a short outing.
