An esteemed Russian military figure has been declared dead following an explosion in Moscow, according to an investigative body.

The incident happened on Monday morning when an IED planted beneath a vehicle was set off, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.

Investigators stated that one theory under investigation suggests the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
